I have noticed a lot of complaints by fellow online conspirators (that's what we are really) on the amount and stupidity of internet ads. Mainly the fact that they are annoying and ultimately retarded.

You can buy ad blocking programs and even get some for free. In the end you end up just running another program that takes up resources and clutters the registry (Windows anyway). Why bother?

Modern browsers have the capability to do far more than just render web pages. They can often apply their own set of rules on how certain aspects of a web page are rendered using a web technology called Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS for short. For example, let's say you have a hard time reading text on most websites. Well, with a custom CSS page, your browser can be told to render all text large and bright red no matter what website you are visiting.

Well, we are going to harness the power of custom CSS to create pages that are... AD FREE!

As you can see in the side-by-side examples, there is no difference in the quality of the page, just the ads are gone! What is happening, you ask?

Well, nothing special really. The ads are still being transferred to your computer. However, our CSS page is going to tell your browser not to display them. Simple as that.

How:

What you need:
1. Modern browser. I will explain how to do this with the windows version of Firefox.
2. The CSS page I wrote for myself.
3. 2 Minutes.

Step 1 - Download my CSS page from above. I zipped it so it would actually transfer. If you view a CSS page in your browser, it will display as text.

Step 2 - Unzip it to your desktop.

Step 3 - Ok, here comes the trickier part. Open "My Computer" and navigate to your hard drive, often named C:\. Then go to "Documents and Settings". In that folder there will be another folder with your username as it's name. Open that folder.

current path = c:\Documents and Settings\$username

Step 4 - Now we are in your personal settings folder. Now go up to the "Tools" menu at the top and select "Folder Options" from the drop-down menu. There will be 4 tabs along the top. Select the "View" tab. In the "Advanced Settings" area find the entry called "Hidden Files and Folders". Check the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button.

Step 5 - Now we can see the folder we need. It is called "Application Data" and should be a little grayed out. Open it and then open the "Mozilla" folder. Open "Firefox" then "Profiles". There will be a folder in there that is just a random string of digits. This is your unique profile folder. Open it. Finally, open the "Chrome" folder.

current path = c:\Documents and Settings\$username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\$random_profile\Chrome

Step 6 - Drag the file you unzipped to your desktop into this folder.

Step 7 - Start up (or restart) Firefox and you now will be browsing ad free.

Ok, now tell someone. And don't forget to go to my music blog at thewhitespaces.com/music.

Ok, I posted 2 times on fffffffffasfrfffrfff (sorry, something was stuck on my f key) my other blog thing before I quit.

So...

I figured out something that will make me happy and all that jazz. I figured I would post a song a day of some of the stuff I really like and am listening to at the time.

Now, you guys, there is no really easy way for me to set up a subscription (actually, I think I just thought of a way) so you'll just have to check back everyday if you are interested.

I will do my best to play artist released music so that those of you who are worried about that stuff won't have to feel guilty about internet downloads.

One thing you can be sure of is a variety of stuff. Today's is a crazy catladyesque woman and tomorrow may be some power metal or maybe a nice swedish number. Who really knows? All I know is that I have a list about 5 feet long of stuff I want to list on here, so check back for some killer stuff.

I thought about doing it on xanga, but too much work getting the links to work and stuff. besides, i have to upload the files anyway...

thanks, and keep coming because it's free and you may really like some of it.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This marks the end of the blogging nonsense.  I find this to be nothing but word vomit.  I never check it.  I never write anything worthwhile.  AND ALL OF YOU GO TO SCHOOL WITH ME!!!  You want to know what's up?  Call 84249.  Ask for Nate.  He might tell you he's not there.  It's probably a lie.  But it's better than this.

Some of you have valid reasons.  I do not, however, and see it as a waste of my time to continue this on any meaningful level.  Therefore, farewell and goodnight.

(If anything changes, I'll be the first to tell you)
